I have a Macbook Pro (yah, I know). It's the second to last generation. The problem that just arose is that the computer restarts every time I move the laptop. Is something loose, or just wearing out? I know cars, not computer stuff (probably why I bought a Mac). Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

sounds like either the battery is moving and getting detached or something came loose and is shorting when it hits the chassis.

Haven't taken one apart in a while but I'm pretty sure those are the non removable battery. You could pop the shell off the bottom and make sure the battery's connection is tight.

Regular MBP or Retina?

I would suspect a loose connection at the battery or magsafe board. You should be able to check both of those cables/connections by taking simply off the bottom cover.

Oh that just means the new MacBook is coming out soon. Apple must have sent out the "malfunction" signal.

*checks*

Yep, new MacBook in stores April 10, lol

basically does it restart EVERY time? no matter where you pick it up from? what about a jiggle when it sits on the table? does the battery charge properly? it does sound like loose connection at the battery. are those removable in that gen? open the cover, have somebody tilt it back while on and tap on the battery and see what happens.

Something probably loose inside, and as others have suggested, check under the bottom cover for anything obvious.

Most of my Macbook experience was pulling old motherboards out that had water/coffee damage.

If I can find a screwdriver small enough I will take a look. Once I identify the battery, what should I look for?

Sometimes the slightest movements will make it restart. The battery seems to be charging fine. I have no clue if it's removable or not. But I will take a look and maybe notice something.

Yep, that's pretty much it. You know, while I'm there, I think I might need a gold watch. Wow, what a one-stop shop.

if the battery charges fine within a reasonable amount of time, then it could be a worse issue someplace else on the board.

tip it on its side and see if it charges, hang it upside down and see if it charges. if it stops charging, then it's almost certainly at the battery/board connection. but if it's continuously charging, you could have something else loose in there.

so.. have it running, put it on its side. if it restarts let it start, but keep it on its side and then see if it performs fine or if it's charging.

Well in that case don't forget the iAdapter to connect your WatchPod to your MacBook.

make sure you touch something metal before to avoid esd as well. And keep track of where the screws came from. I doubt they'll use different sizes for the cover but it is Apple after all (I did iPhone repairs for a while and the internals had at least 5 different size screws).

the only thing coming off the battery should be the connector you're looking for. Make sure it's seated on the mainboard properly.

Just give it a general once over to make sure nothings loose or broken. Check the power port to make sure the solders aren't broken. I'm assuming it uses magsafe so that's not as frequent a problem as regular plug in power supplies.

The good news is that it starts and runs. The bad news it's an apple. I stopped buying apple about 15 years ago, and stopped servicing them in my on-the-side "business" about 10 years ago, as they're wretched to work in and a PITA to get the exact right part for . Good luck trying to take it apart. See if there's a locally-owned computer shop that specializes in apple repair so you don't have to pay apple's outrageous repair costs, much like going to an independent mechanic instead of the dealer.

Then when it's fixed, sell it and buy a Windows machine. apple "reliability" is just as much of a myth as VW and Honda "reliability". Worse, what with all the severe cost-cutting and the situations in their Chinese factories.

(I cant reply unless I use a pin, so ignore the picture lol)

You asked if anyone knows computer stuff and then you say you have a MacBook. Nah bro, Apple doesn't make computers. They just make fancy appliances that might let you do what they want you to do. But only after you pay $0.99 to unlock free thought. Haha, I know nothing about computers, mac or otherwise =p

so much truth here. "We're popular and everyone wants to buy our product regardless of quality? Time to cut cost and boost those profits!"

Don't know if this applies to your MacBook or not, but there are some generations that are prone to the battery swelling quite a bit. Google it and you'll find plenty of info. Usually in manifests in a different way (track-pad issues, uneven cases/housing, etc) but the rebooting may be related.
